Convinced that linguistic diversity is a path towards better intercultural communication and one of the key elements of the continent’s rich cultural heritage, the Council of Europe supports multilingualism across Europe. The first edition of the European Year of Languages was held in October 2001; since then, at the initiative of the Council of Europe, the European Day of Languages has been held every year on 26 September. Can anyone be an entrepreneur or make a difference? Following last year’s huge success, TEDxMonteCarlo 2017 is scaling up to host more than 600 attendees. Ticket prices will be 88 euros and they will go on sale in July 2017. For those unfamiliar with TED, it started as a small non-profit, in 1984, bringing people together to share “Ideas Worth Spreading” from three disciplines – Technology, Entertainment and Design. These ideas are shared in the form of a story or “TED Talk”, which last a maximum of 18 minutes. Since its inception, TED conferences have included speakers like Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, and Quincy Jones who have spoken alongside athletes and grass root musicians. “TED has created a product that’s sophisticated, popular, lucrative, socially conscious, and wildly pervasive.” – The New Yorker – The desire to improve the world through innovation is at the heart of Monaco. Ruled by one of the oldest monarchies in Europe, Monaco is home to over 120 nationalities and leads the world in the exploration of renewable energy, whilst also being a pioneer in environmental ocean and research, carbon neutrality, and sustainability. November 16th- December 2nd 2017 – MONTECARLO JAZZ FESTIVAL – OPERA GARNIER MONTECARLO – Since it was founded in 2006, the festival has received the high patronage of H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco, and we would like to thank him for the attention he has unfailingly given to the event. This festival will allow us to discover and re-discover the greatest stars of jazz and current talents in this wonderful venue, a temple to music and creation for over a century. The festival reflects jazz music as it is: open to all musical currents, always leaving room for tradition yet without being conservative, taking inspiration from music from all over the world and showcasing creation. Throughout this 12th edition, we will be meeting the greatest musicians of the time, the loveliest contemporary jazz voices and the greatest soloists. This programme is in the image of these 11 years of the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival. It shows that jazz is still diverse, unrestricted and freedom-loving. For the opening night on November 16th, the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival 2017 has chosen a monument of music, Marcus Miller, who will present extracts from his brand new album. He shares the bill with Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles. From Tuesday November 17th to Saturday December 2nd, we will have several concerts performed by the greatest jazz artists of the time, such as Stacey Kent, Dhafer Youssef, Chick Corea and Steve Gadd with their project The Corea/Gadd Band. We will also be paying homage to two legends, as we will be receiving Texas and Christophe. As always, the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival is also the opportunity to discover tomorrow’s jazz, with new formations like the feminine trio Sirius Plan, James Carter’s Elektrik Outlet and new talents like Laurent Coulondre. Lastly, we will close this festival with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, which will play current hits, rearranged with different musical genres. The Puppini Sisters, considered the best close harmony group in the world, will share the bill. Price: from 80€ – Doors open: 8 pm – Concert starts: 8:30pm- Correct attire.
November 18th 2017 at 8:30pm – CHRISTOPHE «LES VESTIGES DU CHAOS TOUR» ” IN CONCERTO – OPERA GARNIER MONTE CARLO – Everyone carries his intimate chaos with him. Christophe, without doubt, does it more than anyone else. An original big bang forged out of childhood memories, explosive emotions, magical thoughts, melodies caught in mid-air, primitive rhythms and stealthy images forever imprinted on his cortex, all of which make up the hard disk of his memory. For more than fifty years, this has been the raw material of his work. Christophe has deftly sketched out a thirteenth studio album, which has been maturing for 7 years, and which is greatly anticipated… Jean-Michel Jarre, the creator of “Paradis Perdus” and “Mots bleus” has once again assisted Christophe in writing the words of the title song “Les vestiges du Chaos”, which inspired the title of this new album. He also collaborated with Boris Bergman (“Ange sale”), Daniel Bélanger (” Tangerine,” “Drone”) and the young writer Laurie Darmon (“Océan d’amour”, “Stella Botox”, “Tu te moques”), and many more artists. An opus of a dazzling modernity imagined by Christophe, supported by Christophe Van Huffel, who has been at his side for 15 years, with his crystalline voice returning to centre stage, thanks to the virtuosity of the younger generation represented by Maxime Le Guil (nominated for Grammy Awards 2016 – in the category Best Engineered Album) as co-creator and Clément Ducol, who has dressed this album with ultra-sensitive strings. The blues, electro-rock and poetic synthesizers rub shoulders are beautifully interspersed with a tribute to Lou Reed, a duo with Alan Vega or the incredible voice of Anna Mouglalis… and much more. By arrangement with L.A FACTORY by CARAMBA – Seated concert – Price from 80€ – Doors open: 20:00 – Concert starts: 20:30 – Correct attire – T. +377 98 06 41 59 – Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
November 19 -26 2017 – OPÉRA MONTE-CARLO – ADRIANA LECOUVREUR – SALLE DES PRINCES – GRIMALDI FORUM – The triumph of his fourth work propelled Francesco Cilea towards the heights of notoriety. His topic was well chosen: it set to music the love and death of an eighteenth century French tragedian. Adulated as a star, the actress died mysteriously, aged 37. After this work, Cilea devoted himself almost entirely to teaching by running a number of Italian conservatories, and never returned to the same heights of success until his death in 1950. Thanks to his vocal writing, both lyrical and delicate, his masterpiece, for its part, was never eclipsed. It was interpreted by the greatest singers of the century: Mafalda Favero, Magda Olivero and Renata Scotto. In order to create a parallel with the other legend of French theater, Sarah Bernhardt, David Livermore chose to transpose his stage to the time when the Church was still burning Parisians at the stake. Although the Church refused a Christian funeral to the remains of Adrienne Lecouvreur, it was thanks to a timid and introverted composer that she enjoyed eternity. NB: November 19th, 2017 at 8:00 pm (by invitation of the Palace) – November 23rd, 2017 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, November 26th, 2017 at 3:00 pm – Salle des Princes .
November 24th 2017 – OPÉRA MONTE CARLO – TEXAS IN CONCERT – “Life’s too short, let’s work it out” goes the visionary and pertinent chorus of the first catchy single from the brilliant new album by Texas, “Jump On Board”, which brings the band’s current album count to 9. This album is the sound of a band which is totally at ease and comfortable with itself, packed with hits influenced by Northern Soul, disco, and by founding British bands like the Bee Gees or Orange Juice. Texas has never been afraid to do its own thing. It’s a band that’s been around for a long time, which is rare, and “Jump On Board” offers a characteristic style while at the same time creating flashbacks that recall these much-loved reference hits: “Say What You Want”, “Halo”, “Black Eyed Boy”, “Summer Son”, songs which span a career of nearly 30 years and 40 million albums sold. In 2017, Texas is more vibrant than ever, and the success story of this British band is still going strong. “Jump On Board” is both a spirited regeneration and a triumphant confirmation of a lifetime belief in the power of universal pop music. “We feel refreshed”, Sharleen says with a smile. “We definitely had a great time making this record. It’s time to jig it all up. It’s like a new beginning. It’s the next part of our story, and we’re loving it”.
